Diethylaluminum isopropoxide - Introduction
propan-2-olato, also known as diethylisopropoxyalane, is an organoaluminum compound. Its chemical formula is C8H19AlO and its molecular weight is 162.22.
propan-2-olato is a colorless liquid with a pungent odor. It is highly reactive and can react violently with water and oxygen in the air, so be careful when handling it.
In the chemical industry, diethyl(propan-2-olato) aluminum is often used as a reagent for organic synthesis. It is commonly used in the synthesis of catalysts and ligands, as well as catalysts for organometallic chemical reactions. It is useful as a reagent in some organic syntheses and facilitates the catalytic reduction of alcohols and ketones.
There are two main methods for preparing diethylene (propan-2-olato) aluminum. One is the reaction of aluminum chloride with isopropyl alcohol or isopropyl alcohol ether to give diethyl(propan-2-olato) aluminum. The other is to obtain diethyl(propan-2-olato) aluminum by the reaction of aluminum and diethyl lithium.
When using and storing diethyl(propan-2-olato) aluminum, attention should be paid to its high reactivity and flammability. It should be stored in a sealed container and away from fire and oxidizing agents. Wear protective gloves, goggles and protective clothing during operation to prevent contact and inhalation. In case of contact with skin or eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical help. In the event of a leak or fire, appropriate measures should be taken to clean up and extinguish the source of the fire. To ensure safety, it is recommended to operate under the guidance of professionals.
